BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide whose sequence is commonly given as Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val. It is described in the literature as a fragment of a larger protein found in human gastric juice, referred to as body protection compound. The peptide was first characterized in the early 1990s by a research group in Zagreb, Croatia. Its molecular formula is C62H98N16O22 and its monoisotopic mass is approximately 1419 daltons.
Supplied material is typically a lyophilized white to off-white powder. The peptide is freely soluble in water and in common aqueous buffers, which allows it to be handled as a stock solution. Because the sequence contains no cysteine, disulfide cross-linking is not a route of degradation. The absence of aromatic residues means ultraviolet absorbance at 280 nm is minimal, so quantification usually relies on peptide bond absorbance near 214 nm or on amino acid analysis.
Common synonyms in catalogs include pentadecapeptide BPC 157, BPC157, and the full sequence name. A CAS registry number in the 137525-51-0 range is frequently listed, though the assignment should be verified against the supplier certificate of analysis. The name itself is not a pharmacopoeial designation, and there is no standardized international nonproprietary name. Distinguishing genuine material from related fragments generally requires mass spectrometry, since several truncated sequences share similar chromatographic behavior.
Lyophilized material is generally reported as stable for extended periods when kept cold, dry, and protected from light. In solution, the main degradation routes for a peptide of this type are hydrolysis of peptide bonds and aggregation. The sequence contains no cysteine, so disulfide-driven oxidation is not a primary concern, though methionine and tryptophan are also absent. Stability depends on pH, buffer composition, and concentration, with acidic conditions often reported as more favorable than neutral or alkaline ones. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles can promote aggregation, and how fast degradation proceeds at room temperature in specific formulations remains an open question.
Handling practice centers on limiting moisture, heat, and mechanical stress. Powder is typically allowed to reach room temperature before opening so that condensation does not form on the contents, and solutions are prepared with sterile or low-particulate water. Peptides can adsorb to certain plastics and membrane filters, so container and filter material is sometimes specified to reduce losses at low concentrations. Working aliquots are usually frozen separately rather than sampled repeatedly from one stock. Recording lot number, preparation date, and storage conditions supports later comparison between experiments.

| Molecular mass | Approximately 1419 Da | Monoisotopic mass for the fifteen-residue sequence |
| Solubility class | Freely soluble in water | Stock solutions commonly prepared in water or aqueous buffer |
| Typical storage temperature | -20 °C or below, desiccated | Lyophilized powder; repeated freeze-thaw cycles are usually avoided |
| Common analytical method | Reversed-phase HPLC with UV detection | Frequently paired with mass spectrometry to confirm identity |
Identity and purity are checked with standard peptide techniques. Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography separates the main peak from closely related impurities and yields a percentage purity. Mass spectrometry confirms that the measured mass matches the theoretical value. Amino acid analysis offers an independent check on overall composition. These analytical methods characterize the material itself and reveal nothing about how it behaves in a living system.
In its common research form the peptide is supplied as a lyophilized powder. It dissolves readily in water and in typical aqueous buffers, which simplifies preparation of working solutions. Laboratories usually prepare small aliquots instead of one large volume. The dry material appears as a white to off-white solid with no distinctive odor. Bulk quantities are typically shipped in sealed vials.
Lyophilized material is generally kept cold, commonly at minus twenty degrees Celsius, and shielded from moisture and light. Solutions are less stable than the dry powder, so repeated freeze-thaw cycles are avoided by splitting the material into single-use portions. Published stability data for this particular peptide are limited, which means suggested hold times should be read as provisional. Long-term refrigeration of reconstituted solutions is not well supported by available evidence.
Most published work on BPC-157 consists of preclinical studies, including rodent models of tissue injury, gastrointestinal lesions, and vascular or tendon damage, together with in vitro cell assays. Reviews frequently note that the mechanisms proposed in these papers remain incompletely characterised and that findings have not been confirmed in large randomised human trials. The compound is widely sold as a research chemical rather than a licensed medicine, and labels commonly carry a statement that it is not for human use. Whether any of the reported animal effects translate to humans is an open question rather than an established result.
Terminology in the literature is not fully standardised. Papers and product listings use BPC-157, BPC 157, and the longer phrase stable gastric pentadecapeptide BPC 157 interchangeably, and synonyms such as bepecin or PL 14736 appear in older or company-linked publications. Purity claims and reported masses can also differ between sources because peptide preparations may include counterions, residual solvents, or bound water. This variability complicates direct comparison of results across studies and makes the exact identity and grade of a given sample worth verifying. Discussions of the compound should therefore specify the source, salt form, and stated purity where those are known.
Confirmation of identity and purity relies on standard peptide analysis techniques. Reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography separates the peptide from related impurities and serves as the most common purity assay. Mass spectrometry, often coupled to that chromatography step, provides an accurate molecular mass that can be matched against the expected value. Amino acid analysis or sequencing can be added for further confirmation. Because short peptides can be produced by different synthetic routes, laboratories usually report both a chromatographic purity percentage and a mass confirmation rather than a single figure.
BPC-157 is commonly supplied as a lyophilized powder, a freeze-dried solid that is reconstituted before use in laboratory work. As a short peptide, it dissolves readily in water and in aqueous buffer solutions, and stock solutions are typically prepared in water or a mild buffer. The chain contains several proline and acidic residues, which influence how it behaves in solution. Because the solid can take up moisture, weighing and handling are usually performed under low-humidity conditions. Its solubility class is described as freely soluble in water rather than requiring an organic solvent.
=== Industrial farms === Little research has been done on humane methods of killing insects for consumption. The most common killing methods used by entomophagy companies in the Netherlands are freezing and dry-freezing (i.e., freezing and reducing pressure in order to extract water from the insects). Protix Biosystems kills its black soldier flies by shredding, since its end product is a powder. Death takes less than a second. Tarique Arsiwalla at Protix said shredding makes sense because Western consumers are more likely to accept powdered insects than whole insects. The Jagran company has tried asphyxiation, cooling, freeze-drying, boiling, and shredding. Managing Director Walter Jansen believes that shredding is most humane. The Kreca company kills its animal-feed insects by putting them into a fridge or freeze-drying them. Insects destined for human consumption are first sterilized in hot water and then are refrigerated or freeze-dried. FAO's "Edible insects" report suggests: "Insect-killing methods that would reduce suffering include freezing or instantaneous techniques such as shredding."
Type B: onset at age 20 or older and duration of less than 10 years. Type C: onset at age 10–19 or duration of 10–19 years. Type D: onset before age 10 or duration greater than 20 years. Type E: overt diabetes mellitus with calcified pelvic vessels. Type F: diabetic nephropathy. Type R: proliferative retinopathy. Type RF: retinopathy and nephropathy. Type H: ischemic heart disease. Type T: prior kidney transplant. An early age of onset or long-standing disease comes with greater risks, hence the first three subtypes. Two other sets of criteria are available to diagnose gestational diabetes, both based on blood-sugar levels. Hydrometallurgy is a technique within the field of extractive metallurgy, the obtaining of metals from their ores. Hydrometallurgy uses solutions to recover metals from ores, concentrates, and recycled or residual materials. Usually the extracting solution is aqueous (water-based), often containing additives such as acids. In select cases, the extracting solvent is nonaqueous. Processing techniques that complement hydrometallurgy are pyrometallurgy, vapour metallurgy, and molten salt electrometallurgy. Hydrometallurgy is typically divided into three general areas:
Differential stresses arising from inhomogeneous densification have also been shown to result in the propagation of internal cracks, thus becoming the strength-controlling flaws. Inert gas evaporation and inert gas deposition are free many of these defects due to the distillation (cf. purification) nature of the process and having enough time to form single crystal particles, however even their non-aggreated deposits have lognormal size distribution, which is typical with nanoparticles. The reason why modern gas evaporation techniques can produce a relatively narrow size distribution is that aggregation can be avoided. However, even in this case, random residence times in the growth zone, due to the combination of drift and diffusion, result in a size distribution appearing lognormal. It would, therefore, appear desirable to process a material in such a way that it is physically uniform with regard to the distribution of components and porosity, rather than using particle size distributions that will maximize the green density. The containment of a uniformly dispersed assembly of strongly interacting particles in suspension requires total control over interparticle forces. Monodisperse nanoparticles and colloids provide this potential.

=== Toxicology === A method for detecting arsenious oxide, simple arsenic, in corpses was devised in 1773 by the Swedish chemist, Carl Wilhelm Scheele. His work was expanded upon, in 1806, by German chemist Valentin Ross, who learned to detect the poison in the walls of a victim's stomach. Toxicology, a subfield of forensic chemistry, focuses on detecting and identifying drugs, poisons, and other toxic substances in biological samples. Forensic toxicologists work on cases involving drug overdoses, poisoning, and substance abuse. Their work is critical in determining whether harmful substances play a role in a person's death or impairment. read more
=== 2012—2017: ZeniMax Media subsidiaries === Antonov also worked on Dishonored's DLC. Following this, Antonov became the visual design director for American company ZeniMax Media, meaning he worked on projects developed by ZeniMax's subsidiary developers—including Bethesda Game Studios, MachineGames, id Software, and Arkane—and made sure "the level of visual design and fiction" coming out of them was "the highest possible", Robert Purchese wrote. In 2012, a ZeniMax subsidiary named BattleCry Studios was founded in Austin, Texas, by developer Rich Vogel. Antonov worked on their planned debut release, a team-based multiplayer FPS titled BattleCry. In 2015, Bethesda Softworks, the planned publisher of BattleCry, revealed their "concerns" about the viability of the game releasing, and it was cancelled in 2017. Antonov was the additional art director of MachineGames' Wolfenstein: The New Order (2014); a visual designer of Dire Wolf Digital's The Elder Scrolls: Legends (2017); and a consultant on Bethesda Game Studios' Fallout 4 (2015), id Software's Doom (2016), and Arkane's Dishonored 2 (2016) and Prey (2017).
=== Catalase === The catalase test tests whether a microbe produces the enzyme catalase, which catalyzes the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide. Smearing a colony sample onto a glass slide and adding a solution of hydrogen peroxide (3% H2O2) will indicate whether the enzyme is present or not. Bubbling is a positive test while nothing happening is a negative result.
Following the guidelines of the European institutions, the "adjustment" policy was accompanied by the introduction of three important "structural reforms": the Labor Reform of September 2010 with the purpose of making it more "flexible"; the new law on pensions approved in June 2011 which raised the retirement age from 65 to 67; and the Royal Decree Law, also of June 2011, which "made more flexible" the collective bargaining system. It also raised the general VAT rate from 16 to 18%. The turn in economic policy caused the government to break with the unions who called a general strike for September 29, 2010, the first since Zapatero was in power. Despite all the measures adopted by the government, the risk premium on Spanish debt continued to rise and in the summer of 2011 the situation became unsustainable. Then the European Central Bank decided to act by buying Spanish public debt – and that of other countries with problems, such as Italy— but in exchange it demanded new "structural reforms". The response of Rodríguez Zapatero's government was to proceed quickly with the reform of Article 135 of the Constitution, in which it had the immediate support of the People's Party, to establish the commitment of the State and the autonomous communities not to "incur a structural deficit that exceeds the margins established, where appropriate, by the European Union for its Member States".
To determine the need for referral to a specialized burn unit, the American Burn Association devised a classification system. Under this system, burns can be classified as major, moderate, and minor. This is assessed based on a number of factors, including total body surface area affected, the involvement of specific anatomical zones, the age of the person, and associated injuries. Minor burns can typically be managed at home, moderate burns are often managed in a hospital, and major burns are managed by a burn center. Severe burn injury represents one of the most devastating forms of trauma. Despite improvements in burn care, patients can be left to suffer for as many as three years post-injury.

=== "Ptomaine poisoning" misconception === Ptomaine poisoning was a myth that persisted in the public consciousness, in newspaper headlines, and legal cases as an official diagnosis, decades after it had been scientifically disproven in the 1910s. In the 19th century, the Italian chemist Francesco Selmi, of Bologna, introduced the generic name ptomaine (from Greek ptōma, "fall, fallen body, corpse") for alkaloids found in decaying animal and vegetable matter, especially (as reflected in their names) putrescine and cadaverine. The 1892 Merck's Bulletin stated, "We name such products of bacterial origin ptomaines; and the special alkaloid produced by the comma bacillus is variously named Cadaverine, Putrescine, etc." while The Lancet stated, "The chemical ferments produced in the system, the... ptomaines which may exercise so disastrous an influence." It is now known that the "disastrous... influence" is due to the direct action of bacteria and only slightly due to the alkaloids. Thus, the use of the phrase "ptomaine poisoning" is obsolete. At a Communist Party political convention in Massillon, Ohio, and aboard a cruise ship in Washington, D.C., hundreds of people were sickened in separate incidents by tainted potato salad, during a single week in 1932, drawing national attention to the dangers of so-called "ptomaine poisoning" in the pages of the American news weekly Time. In 1944, another newspaper article reported that over 150 people in Chicago were hospitalized with "ptomaine poisoning", apparently from rice pudding served by a restaurant chain.
On 14 June, Canadian prime minister Carney and British prime minister Starmer held their bilateral meeting in Ottawa. On route to Ottawa, Starmer stated that "Canada is an independent, sovereign country and a much-valued member of the Commonwealth" in the wake of President Trump's threats to annex Canada as the 51st state. Upon arrival, Starmer had dinner with Canadian prime minister Mark Carney at his official residence at Rideau Cottage, later the two watched a National Hockey League game between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers. They agreed to establish an Economic and Trade Working Group and to deepen the Trade Continuity Agreement, while Carney committed Canada to ratifying the UK's accession to CPTPP. The meeting was the first between two international leaders since Israel's strikes on Iran starting the 2025 Iran–Israel conflict; Starmer began a diplomatic push to try to de-escalate the Middle Eastern crisis.
The tracer 68Ga-Trivehexin showed an uptake of SUVmax = 5.53 in fibrotic lung tissue and enabled a differentiation between fibrotic and non-fibrotic lung areas in PET/CT images. 68Ga-Trivehexin yielded clear PET signals in IPF lesions which were PET-negative using the standard metabolic PET tracer 18F-FDG.

It is a synthetic peptide built from fifteen amino acids, with a mass of roughly 1419 daltons. The sequence is reported to match a fragment of a protein present in human gastric juice. It is not a naturally circulating hormone.
It is normally supplied as a lyophilized powder in a sealed vial. The powder dissolves readily in water, and stock solutions are typically prepared shortly before use. Cold storage is standard laboratory practice.
The letters are generally read as shorthand for body protection compound. That label comes from the original research context rather than from formal nomenclature. No standardized nonproprietary name exists for the peptide.
Reversed-phase liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection gives a purity estimate, while mass spectrometry confirms molecular mass and flags modifications. Amino acid analysis can add compositional confirmation. Results are most meaningful when a validated reference standard is run alongside the sample.
