Everything below concerns pentadecapeptide. We keep the language plain, cite what the science says, and separate well-supported claims from open questions.
Updated 2026-06-14. Numbers and descriptions here follow the published literature rather than marketing material.
Proposed mechanisms in the literature involve the nitric oxide system, vascular endothelial growth factor signaling, and epidermal growth factor receptor pathways. Some studies report changes in blood vessel formation or in inflammatory mediators, while others describe interactions with nervous tissue. Much of this evidence rests on molecular markers in cultured cells or animal models. Whether the same pathways operate the same way in humans has not been established. Authors therefore tend to describe mechanisms as hypothetical rather than settled.
Direct human evidence is scarce. One trial in ulcerative colitis delivered the compound by enema and produced limited publicly reported results without a clear benefit. The compound is not an approved medicine in most jurisdictions. In many markets it is sold as a research chemical; in others it falls under prescription or controlled categories. Regulators have not confirmed any claimed medical use, and product labels rarely undergo premarket review.
BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide built from fifteen amino acids, referred to in the literature as a pentadecapeptide. Its sequence was derived from a larger protein found in human gastric juice, commonly called body protection compound. Researchers first described the fragment in the early 1990s and named it after the parent protein plus a numeric identifier. The peptide does not correspond to a single marketed medicine; it is primarily a laboratory research material. Suppliers distribute it as a lyophilized powder intended for experimental use.
Published work on BPC-157 spans several decades and covers a wide range of experimental models. Much of the early literature reports outcomes in animal studies involving induced injury to the gastrointestinal tract, tendons, and other tissues. The volume of preclinical reports is large, while controlled human trials remain scarce. This imbalance is a recurring point of discussion, because animal findings do not automatically translate into human effects. Reviews often note that study designs differ substantially across laboratories.
Interest in the peptide has grown through online communities that discuss self-administered use, which sits outside formal research settings. Regulatory status varies by country, and in many jurisdictions the compound is not approved as a therapeutic product. Questions about optimal routes of administration, long-term effects, and dose-response relationships remain open. Published pharmacokinetic data in humans are limited, and much of what circulates in popular discussion is extrapolated from animal work rather than measured directly in people.

BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide whose sequence is commonly given as Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val. It is described in the literature as a fragment of a larger protein found in human gastric juice, referred to as body protection compound. The peptide was first characterized in the early 1990s by a research group in Zagreb, Croatia. Its molecular formula is C62H98N16O22 and its monoisotopic mass is approximately 1419 daltons.
Supplied material is typically a lyophilized white to off-white powder. The peptide is freely soluble in water and in common aqueous buffers, which allows it to be handled as a stock solution. Because the sequence contains no cysteine, disulfide cross-linking is not a route of degradation. The absence of aromatic residues means ultraviolet absorbance at 280 nm is minimal, so quantification usually relies on peptide bond absorbance near 214 nm or on amino acid analysis.
Common synonyms in catalogs include pentadecapeptide BPC 157, BPC157, and the full sequence name. A CAS registry number in the 137525-51-0 range is frequently listed, though the assignment should be verified against the supplier certificate of analysis. The name itself is not a pharmacopoeial designation, and there is no standardized international nonproprietary name. Distinguishing genuine material from related fragments generally requires mass spectrometry, since several truncated sequences share similar chromatographic behavior.
Lyophilized material is generally kept cold, commonly at minus twenty degrees Celsius, and shielded from moisture and light. Solutions are less stable than the dry powder, so repeated freeze-thaw cycles are avoided by splitting the material into single-use portions. Published stability data for this particular peptide are limited, which means suggested hold times should be read as provisional. Long-term refrigeration of reconstituted solutions is not well supported by available evidence.
Identity and purity are checked with standard peptide techniques. Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography separates the main peak from closely related impurities and yields a percentage purity. Mass spectrometry confirms that the measured mass matches the theoretical value. Amino acid analysis offers an independent check on overall composition. These analytical methods characterize the material itself and reveal nothing about how it behaves in a living system.
The explanation of the extraordinary efficiency is the use of mixtures in the synthetic steps. If in a traditional reaction one compound is coupled with one reactant and one new compound is formed. If a mixture of compounds containing n components is coupled with a single reactant the number of new compounds formed in the single coupling is n. The difference between the traditional and the split and pool synthesis is convincingly shown by the number of coupling steps in the traditional and the split and pool synthesis of 3,2 million pentapeptides. Conventional synthesis: 3,200,000x5=16,000,000 coupling steps cca 40,000 years S&P synthesis: 20x5=100 coupling steps cca 5 days It is possible to conduct the conventional synthesis rational way as is shown in the figure. In this case, the number of coupling cycles is: 20+400+8,000+160,000+3,200,000=3,368,420 cca 9,200 years
==== Temgicoluril ==== Temgicoluril (Mebicar) is an anxiolytic produced in Latvia and used in Eastern Europe. Temgicoluril has an effect on the structure of limbic-reticular activity, particularly on the hypothalamus, as well as on all four basic neuromediator systems – γ aminobutyric acid (GABA), choline, serotonin and adrenergic activity. Temgicoluril decreases noradrenaline, increases serotonin, and exerts no effect on dopamine.
The biosynthetic machinery of an NRPS system is composed of multimodular enzymatic assembly lines that contain one module for each amino acid monomer incorporated. Within each module are catalytic domains that carry out the elongation of the growing peptidyl chain. The growing peptide is covalently tethered to a thiolation domain; here it is termed the peptidyl carrier protein, as it carries the growing peptide from one catalytic domain to the next. Again, the apo-T domain must be primed to the holo-T domain by a PPTase, attaching a flexible phosphopantetheine arm to a conserved serine residue. An adenylation domain selects the amino acid monomer to be incorporated and activates the carboxylate with ATP to make the aminoacyl-AMP. Next, the A domain installs an aminoacyl group on the thiolate of the adjacent T domain. The condensation (C) domain catalyzes the peptide bond forming reaction, which elicits chain elongation. It joins an upstream peptidyl-S-T to the downstream aminoacyl-S-T (Figure 7). Chain elongation by one aminoacyl residue and chain translocation to the next T domain occurs in concert. The order of these domains is C-A-T. In some instances, an epimerization domain is necessary in those modules where L-amino acid monomers are to be incorporated and epimerized to D-amino acids. The domain organization in such modules is C-A-T-E. The first module has a three-domain C-A-T organization; these often occur in assembly lines that make N-acylated peptides. The first C domain catalyzes N-acylation of the initiating amino acid (tryptophan) while it is installed on T.

==== Silk crepeline ==== Silk crepeline is less sheer than nylon netting and is also susceptible to reactions to light, but may be used as an overlay technique as well as for patching specific areas and can be easily dyed. Because it can fray, the edges need to be hemmed, which can create less sheer areas.

== History == In 1822 the first awards were given to thirteen people by the Philadelphia Society for Promoting Agriculture entrusted by the "Corporation of the city of Philadelphia". The druggist John Scott of Edinburgh organized a $4,000 fund which, after his death in 1815 was administered by a merchant until the first award, a copper medal and "an amount not to exceed twenty dollars", was given in 1822. (At the time, $20 could buy one ox or a 12-volume encyclopedia.) Several hundred recipients have since been selected by the City Council of Philadelphia, which decides from the annual list of nominees made by the Franklin Institute.

To resolve this dilemma, several mycologists proposed in a 2005 publication to conserve the name Psilocybe, with P. semilanceata as the type. As they explained, conserving the name Psilocybe in this way would prevent nomenclatural changes to a well-known group of fungi, many species of which are "linked to archaeology, anthropology, religion, alternate life styles, forensic science, law enforcement, laws and regulation". Further, the name P. semilanceata had historically been accepted as the lectotype by many authors in the period 1938–68. The proposal to conserve the name Psilocybe, with P. semilanceata as the type was accepted unanimously by the Nomenclature Committee for Fungi in 2009. The mushroom takes its common name from the Phrygian cap, also known as the "liberty cap", which it resembles; P. semilanceata shares its common name with P. pelliculosa, a species from which it is more or less indistinguishable in appearance. The Latin word for Phrygian cap is pileus, nowadays the technical name for what is commonly known as the "cap" of a fungal fruit body. In the 18th century, Phrygian caps were placed on Liberty poles, which resemble the stipe of the mushroom. The generic name is derived from Ancient Greek psilos (ψιλός) 'smooth, bare' and Byzantine Greek kubê (κύβη) 'head'. The specific epithet comes from Latin semi 'half, somewhat' and lanceata, from lanceolatus 'spear-shaped'.
=== COVID-19 pandemic === On 20 January 2020, Xi commented for the first time on the emerging COVID-19 pandemic in Wuhan, and ordered "efforts to curb the spread" of the virus. He gave premier Li Keqiang some responsibility over the COVID-19 response, in what has been suggested by The Wall Street Journal was an attempt to potentially insulate himself from criticism if the response failed. The government initially responded to the pandemic with a lockdown and censorship, with the initial response causing widespread backlash within China. Xi met with Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), on 28 January. Der Spiegel reported that in January 2020 Xi pressured Tedros Adhanom to hold off on issuing a global warning about the outbreak of COVID-19 and hold back information on human-to-human transmission of the virus, allegations denied by the WHO. On 5 February, Xi met with Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen in Beijing, the first foreign leader allowed into China since the outbreak. After the COVID-19 outbreak got under control in Wuhan, Xi visited the city on 10 March. After getting the outbreak in Wuhan under control, Xi has favoured what has officially been termed "dynamic zero-COVID policy" that aims to control and suppress the virus as much as possible within the country's borders. This has involved local lockdowns and mass-testing.
Novichok (Russian: Новичо́к, lit. 'newcomer, novice, newbie') is a family of nerve agents, some of which are binary chemical weapons. The agents were developed at the GosNIIOKhT state chemical research institute by the Soviet Union and Russia between 1971 and 1993. Some Novichok agents are solids at standard temperature and pressure, while others are liquids. Dispersal of solid form agents is thought possible if in ultrafine powder state. Russian scientists who developed the nerve agents claim they are the deadliest ever made, with some variants possibly five to eight times more potent than VX, and others up to ten times more potent than soman. Iran has also been associated with the production of such chemical agents. In the twenty-first century, Novichok agents came to public attention after they were used to poison opponents of the Russian government, including in the attempted assassination of Sergei Skripal in the United Kingdom which resulted in the poisonings of 5 people and the death of an unrelated civilian in Amesbury (2018), as well as the poisoning of Alexei Navalny (2020). However, the use of Novichok domestically against Russian citizens has been known since at least 1995. In November 2019, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which is the executive body for the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), added the Novichok agents to "list of controlled substances" of the CWC "in one of the first major changes to the treaty since it was agreed in the 1990s" in response to the 2018 poisonings in the UK.

Animal experiments form the bulk of the published record. Rodent models of tendon, ligament, bone, and gut injury are the most common designs. Controlled human trials are rare, which limits confidence in any clinical claim.
They are best described as working hypotheses. Supporting data come mainly from cell cultures and animal tissue, using markers such as growth factors and inflammatory signals. Confirmatory human studies have not been reported.
Status depends on the country. In some places it is treated as a research chemical available without a prescription, while elsewhere it falls under prescription or controlled rules. It holds no general marketing approval as a therapeutic product.
It is a synthetic peptide of fifteen amino acids whose sequence matches a fragment of a protein found in human gastric juice. It is studied mainly in laboratory and animal research rather than as an approved medicine.
